Brand New Thing

excerpt from “The Spirit Filled Believer’s” Daily Devotional

~Isaiah 43:18-19

“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

Former things are those that have occurred; during the last few years…recent things or things that are still fresh in our memory…those things people talk about for days afterwards. They seem to be conversation pieces. This verse challenges us to turn 180 degrees and start planning for a good future.

Things of old go back in time…back to antiquity. History, tradition, and past ages can be included in these things of old. The verse commands us to leave the past and get ready for the future. The Lord has new things for us. It is impossible to look in two directions at the same time. Clinging to past memories could cause us to pass up the new things, and miss out altogether on good things, He has planned for us.

A new thing is challenging. It refers to something fresh, exciting and exhilarating rather than predictable, lackluster, dull, boring, or routine. The Lord promises to put us on a daily diet of challenges all to stimulate and build our faith. Each day can be another unfolding of the Divine drama in our life.

Now it shall spring forth. This phrase spring forth means the same as to sprout. It refers to a plant growing out of the ground. God’s Word is a seed planted in the heart. Faith causes it to germinate and sprout. The end result is fruitfulness. Instead of living in the past, you and I can now lead fruitful, productive lives.

~Dick Mills

Leaving the past behind us, and believing in God for a good future isn’t always easy, especially when the wounds from past betrayals, mistakes, and disappointments still hurt.

This is one of the many reasons it is important to forgive all those who have hurt us, harmed us, or spoken against us, and ask God to deliver us from any resentment or anger that still lingers in those dark crevices of our hearts.

We have to also forgive ourselves, for sins that we’ve dragged to the cross repeatedly, and for trusting where we should have used discernment.

We have to break inner vows like “I’ll NEVER let anyone hurt me again,” and “NO ONE will ever really love me” because these are oaths we’ve made to ourselves, that are contradictory to the Word of God. In doing so we’ve actually come into an agreement with the enemy, which then gives him legal rights to torment us with the past, and cast doubt on the future. It serves as an open door.

Satan wants us to turn away from the good the Lord has planned for us, because we haven’t healed, and we are in fear.

~1 John 4:18

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”

God on the other hand wants us to be free! He wants us to BELIEVE that He’s the God of angel armies, that He can do the impossible! That He “makes a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

So I’ve included a prayer here at the bottom and I’m asking that you would leap out in faith, and step into God’s best for your life. Say the prayer and start believing what the Word of God says about “The Power of Your Words”  and start speaking LIFE over yourself and your future. Stop speaking negative altogether. When a negative thought comes into your mind stop, and say out loud, “OUT! In the name of Jesus, I hold EVERY THOUGHT captive to the obedience of Christ” then instead of what you were about to say, speak a blessing.

Praise God for the things that you can’t even see happening yet in faith, and watch your life change!

“Have You Believed a Lie?”

FORGIVENESS PRAYER

Dear Father God,

I confess that I have anger and resentment in my heart and ask that You would deliver me from it, as I forgive every person who has ever harmed me, hurt me, or spoken against me, specifically I forgive ____________, for ______________.

I forgive them as a matter of will, and ask that You would cause it to take root in my spirit. I ask for freedom Father, and for You to show me the way that You see _________(the person that sinned against you).

As I forgive as a matter of will, in obedience to You, I ask that You would bless me in my efforts to do good and live righteously, and forgive me of all the sins I’ve committed knowingly and unknowingly…specifically __________ & __________.

I ask You Father to heal my broken heart and purify my thoughts, and teach me how to take every thought captive as You have instructed us to do.

Heal me of every wound that causes me to see myself and the world through the eyes of a wounded soul, and show me the way You see me.

I ask You to protect me from the lies of satan, and where the enemies lies have already invaded my thoughts, I push them back by inviting in the power of the Holy Spirit.

I break the inner vow that I’ve made that “__________________” and ask that You would forgive me for speaking curses over myself/my life.

I now take back the ground that the enemy has gained in my life, and recommit that ground to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

I thank you for doing this, and I accept the full blessing of Your forgiveness, as I now come into agreement with Your Truth.

I believe what You say about me and my future.

I release and decree the blessings of Abraham, and the VICTORIES of Jacob over my life, and ask You to deploy Your warrior angels from the windows of Heaven, to encamp around me and protect me from every effort of satan and his emissaries.

I ask You to fill me with Your Holy Spirit, as I pray all these things in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,

Amen.
